E! Online News - Fox Gets Barenaked
E! Online News reports that the Barenaked Ladies will be starring in a variety-style TV show. I can only sincerely hope that we will, at long last, catch a glimpse of dijon catsup and pre-wrapped bacon.

It's not my fault.
"It's not my fault that I got caught lying."

STATEMENT FROM DAN RATHER:
Last week, amid increasing questions about the authenticity of documents used in support of a 60 MINUTES WEDNESDAY story about President Bush's time in the Texas Air National Guard, CBS News vowed to re-examine the documents in question—and their source—vigorously. And we promised that we would let the American public know what this examination turned up, whatever the outcome.
Now, after extensive additional interviews, I no longer have the confidence in these documents that would allow us to continue vouching for them journalistically. I find we have been misled on the key question of how our source for the documents came into possession of these papers. That, combined with some of the questions that have been raised in public and in the press, leads me to a point where—if I knew then what I know now—I would not have gone ahead with the story as it was aired, and I certainly would not have used the documents in question.
But we did use the documents. We made a mistake in judgment, and for that I am sorry. It was an error that was made, however, in good faith and in the spirit of trying to carry on a CBS News tradition of investigative reporting without fear or favoritism.
Please know that nothing is more important to us than people's trust in our ability and our commitment to report fairly and truthfully.

Ratherism I
Ratherism, n. Ra'ther'izm
That which is presented to be real and shocking, but is, at first glance, so incredibly obviously faked so as to produce humorous effect instead of intended outrage.

Reflected Glory
Here's a moment of basking in reflected glory. Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, my cousin and my father were famous. My cousin more so than my father. So, that would mean that I'm really basking in the reflection of reflected glory. More like a faint glow of glory. Anyway, I've told many of you that my dad was a computer programmer and my cousin was a genius and probably mentioned something about Donkey Kong. Awhile back, I discovered an article that serves as third-party verification. There are several other documents that I won't bore you with, but for posterity, the internet has made them immortal. Which means that I have a faint glow of immortality, myself.

Bush Forgery Update
AUSTIN, Texas — The man named in a disputed memo as exerting pressure to "sugarcoat" George W. Bush's military record left the Texas Air National Guard a year and a half before the memo supposedly was written, his service record shows. From the Seattle Times.

How much...
...is that doggie in the window?
The Bush Forgeries
Blogger Little Green Footballs put together a very concise, clear layman's analysis of the Bush Forgeries with all sorts of hyperlinks off to all kind of information and quotable tidbits noting that this may equal a loss for the Dems.
The New Rosetta Stone
The web is such a beautiful, dynamic place. Things crop up, other things die off, and the 'net just keeps chugging forward. In a moment of totally random surfing, I found a way to locate long lost web pages. Suddenly, the floodgates of possibility open. Not only do I have the opportunity to present to you things from yesterday and today, but also things from possibly last week or even, (gasp) the week before that!
One of the dear departed sites that garners my mourning is Brunching.com, previously featured. In the bottom of the dusty stacks of old web work, I found this carefully preserved peice that not only had I not seen before, but was published at some point in 1997. Which is pretty much the Paleolithic Era, web-wise.
It's very interesting, and I couldn't find anything vaguely like it on Google. I rate this peice a full four quarters. Which, it seems, is not a dollar.

Cartoon of the Day
In a mini Jason Bourne-type adventure, Fleep is about a boy who wakes up in a telephone booth which has been mysteriously selaed in an envelope of concrete. Using only the contents of his pockets (two pens, a paperback novel, three coins and 20 ft of unwaxed dental floss) our hero must fashion and execute an escape plan before he runs out of oxygen. An entertaining, if short, read that will answer your question as to how all that stupid crap you learned in math class is going to help you in the Real World.

The Greatest Album Covers That Never Were is an incredible collection of artist created fantasy album covers. They are all interesting, unique, and worth a gander. Enjoy!
Media Bias
Today on CNN.com there was a poll:
Some 39 percent of DNC delegates were minorities. What percentage of the total GOP delegate pool are minorities?
6 percent
12 percent
17 percent
24 percent
21 percent
Media bias? You think?
Facts or no facts notwithstanding (considering that CNN probably decided several percent of the delegate pool was "not black enough" to count as a minority, but if a DNC delegate was, say, 1/16th Sioux Indian, that counted), the way in which this question was posed is a blatant display of taking sides in an issue that is, let's face it, really inconsequential as an indication of leadership ability. Which is what this whole election process *used* to be about.
